Music Program
OJUSD offers a continuum of music education for students in grades K-12.
It all begins in elementary school where all students in first to sixth grade attend Elementary Classroom Music, where they learn fundamental music concepts and apply this knowledge in many activities — listening, performing and creating. Each class receives 30 minutes of music instruction per week.
Additional Music Program Electives available to Elementary Students:
- Students may participate in Elementary Choir (Grades 4-6) for 30 minutes each week (auditions required)
- Students may participate in Beginning Band (Grade 5)
- Students may participate in Advanced Band (Grade 6)
Students earning below passing grades will no longer be able to actively participate in choir or band.
Upon entering Oakdale Junior High School, students may opt to use their elective period to continue in band. Upon entering Oakdale High School, students are afforded even more music electives which include drumline and marching band.
