Community of Oakdale,


I hope this note finds your summer going well. I would like to take this opportunity to state that I sincerely consider it a privilege to serve you as Superintendent. The 2016-17 school year was certainly a productive one for staff and students. A list of last year’s accomplishments is posted on the district website for your review. We have all worked very hard to provide our students with the educational and career opportunities they need to successfully move forward with the next stage of their lives, regardless of the pursuit. The list of accomplishments is certainly a testament to this fact.


The last three years have created significant changes in our system of education. College and Career Readiness Skills implementation, increased technology, and textbook adoptions have greatly enhanced our lesson delivery. The OJUSD teaching staff has spent a sizeable amount of time both in and out of classroom honing their craft in order to deliver dynamic instruction to students on a daily basis. As a District we have also made initial efforts in creating a “cradle to career” initiative. It is our desire that our students are able to identify a potential career path by the end of the 8th grade, then spend their high school years working towards preparing themselves for the next step in that potential career endeavor. Research shows that student performance improves when students clearly grasp the relevance of the instruction they are receiving.  


Instructionally, the 2017-18 school year will be a time in which we focus on increased student engagement in all classes. The above mentioned cradle to career initiative will be just one of the strategies that we utilize to create high levels of educational engagement for all our students. Overall, we will be concentrating the efforts of everyone in the District on maximizing our effectiveness as an instructional institution. While Certificated Staff concentrates on creating instruction that increases student engagement and lesson relevance, Classified Staff will be helping to create learning environments that maximize our instructional efforts inside the classroom. Our Administrative Staff will also have significant work to do as I hold them and myself accountable to a “Commitment of Leadership.” This past year our administrative team identified twelve traits essential to effective leadership. We will be working to fully implement these traits to become more effective leaders. If you are curious, the “OJUSD Leadership Commitment” has been posted on our website. 


On many occasions, I have stated my core belief that organizations either get better or worse every day! To that end, I remain committed to the OJUSD vision statement of “Teach, Learn, Every Day, No Excuses!” It is my goal to see us continue our efforts in creating an organizational culture that allows us all to hone our specific crafts.
