Classroom Music

Colorful_Notes.jpgAll 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in the Oakdale School District receive a 30 minute lesson in music each week. Some of the things that we experience in music are:

  • Learn rudiments of music such as beat, rhythm, melody and harmony
  • Sing a variety of music such as: period, seasonal, cultural and modern
  • Develop a singing voice
  • Explore music with movement
  • Introduced to the orchestra and band which includes lessons on the instrument families.
  • Introduced to composers and their music
  • Visit countries around the world and their music via the internet and lessons developed from John Jacobson’s Musical Planet.
  • Learn about people today who are prominent in the world of music.
  • The number one class rule is to participate.

District Choir

Third Grade and Intermediate District Choir are audition choirs. Students are taught the audition song beginning in August. They receive permission to audition from their parents.

Color_Notes_Long.jpgAuditions take place the last week of August and rehearsals begin the first week of September. Rehearsals are thirty minutes in length and are held weekly.

Students and parents sign a contract that state they will participate in choir for the entire school year. They must attend at least 75% of all rehearsals in order to qualify for the concerts. The goal of course is 100% attendance.
